Janet McCall
With heavy hearts we are forwarding along the passing of Janet McCall. Sister McCall passed unexpectedly January 25, 2022. Janet initiated as a mechanical laborer with Local 290 in March 1996. That September, Janet became a steamfitter apprentice and turned out as a journeyman in 2001. Janet retired in 2018.
Janet was a member of the election committee since 2008 and served as the chair through many elections.
The family will have a celebration of life for those who knew and worked with Janet. The plan at this time is for April 1st. More information will become available once things are planned.

The union meant a lot to my grandpa and he was proud to be a member of local 290. Whether it was the union Christmas party or the picnic he always tried to make it a priority. He always told lots of stories about his students when he was teaching and fondly called his students his “pups”. If you could tell them how proud of them he was it would be greatly appreciated. He wasn’t ever a man of many words, unless he was telling a story or bragging about his “union pups”. He’d get the biggest grin or a mischievous look in his eye depending on the story about his union buddies . Anyway I just wanted someone, actually everyone to know how much being apart of the Pipefitters union meant to my grandpa and how thankful I am that he had your support.

With heavy hearts we report that Matthew Manley, Local 290 HVAC member, has passed away. Matt was crabbing off his kayak near the mouth of the Seaside Estuary on New Year’s Day when he went missing. Matt joined Local 290 in March, 2017 and worked for Green Box Mechanical. He is survived by his parents, loving partner Megan and countless friends and family members. Wilbur “Bill” Edens

In 1955 he won the Oregon Apprentice contest and went on to place 4th at the UA Nationals. He served for 10 years on the LU 235 Exam board, was Recording Secretary and Executive Board member for 12 years and served as dispatcher. He was a delegate to the National Convention and was an instructor for 24 years and then Training Coordinator of LU 235.
He retired in 1993 and was a 66 year Life Member. He was 94 years old.

We have received notice that Gary Poole has died. Mr. Poole initiated as an Apprentice Pipefitter/HVAC/R into LU 662 in 1961 and then completed his Apprenticeship in LU 481. He retired in 1992 and then in 2014 moved in with his family in Florida. He was a 55 year Life Member and was 79 years old.

We have received notice that Jerry Krause has died. Mr. Krause initiated as a BT Plumber into LU 51 in 1996. He retired in 2001 and was a 51 year Life Member. He was 76 years old.
